A website about full-size sailplanes. They call themselves an online magazine about soaring, sailplanes, and gliding. I just call it great and worth checking out, even if you are not into soaring.

Main Cafe Website

The main section is a nice looking free website for full-size glider pilots. Even if all you fly are models, you’ll find lots of interesting information here. I specially liked the articles section.

Concordia Project

The highlight of the website is the special section devoted to the Concordia Project. This is a 92 foot (28 meter) open class superglider under development. This wingspan is almost twice that of a full-size standard class glider. This glider’s aspect ratio of 57 puts it in a class all its own.

If you are interested in learning more about full-size airplane design, specially gliders, this section of the website is hard to beat. It contains much behind the scenes insight into the glider’s design process. There is also much information on the prototype’s construction process. A real treat!

Greatest Posts

A section worth checking out is called Greatest Posts. Like it’s name implies, it’s a listing of the most popular posts on the website. That’s where I found another hidden gem: The Mountain, a time-lapse video of a mountain at night. Nothing to do with flying, but it’s simply stunning.

The photo gallery section was another treat. Lots of beautiful pictures of gliders. Be sure and check out the Glorious Formations gallery. If you like nature photography, you’ll enjoy these shots.

I’m always on the lookout for interesting websites, and this one was a real treat. There’s really nothing not to like about it. They’ve only been around a couple of years, and I expect it to get even better with time. Even if you are not a fan of full-size or model gliders, I’m sure you’ll find lots of thoughtful articles and eye candy to make a visit well worth your while.

5 / 5 stars
